Custom rim's for a Hummer H3

What you are looking at is the back of a Chip Foose Speedster
The problem with this rim is that the center bore is only cut to 78mm and a friend of ours "Wayne" really wanted to put them on his Hummer H3. So the problem is the the center bore on a Hummer is 100mm and the rim is only cut to 78mm. Now almost every rim shop in the city will tell you that it cant be done… My friend Wayne looked at me and said "I want those rims" and I said "ok I will make it happen" . So I thought to my self "I know who to call" David Cowls. David Cowls is a friend of mine and also happens to be the machine shop supervisor at TRI-MACH which is located at 315 Breitaupt st Kitchener Ont. David was more then willing to help in fact David specializes in custom machining.
So I went down to see David and told him what needed to be done. He looked at me and said "No problem how fast do you need this done" I told him that I needed it done asap.
The long weekend was only two days away and Wayne really wanted this to be done before he went up to the beach so he could cruise the strip. We all know how it is to cruise the strip especially in a 2008 Hummer H-3 with some big 20" chrome Foose rims. David was more then willing to get it done in less than one day.

So me and David took some measurements to see what had to be done. In some cases you can only mill out a little bit of the rim because there has to be a minimum thickness of 6mm. If you were to mill it out more then that you would lose the structural integrity of the rim. You do not want to put a 5000lb Hummer on a set of rims that will not support it. So me and David decided that we could cut out 22mm of the center bore and we would still have 10mm of clearance. This whole process cost about $90.00 a rim that’s not bad when your talking about $600.00 rims. The photo on top is one of the rims on the mill.

This was the end result a 2008 Hummer H-3 on a custom set of 20" Chip Fosse Speedster. You could never just go out and buy a set of rims like this. These are one of a kind. You will never see the same rims on a 2008 Hummer. We could not have had this work out any better. Wayne "the owner" was stoked he was so happy to know that his rims were one of a kind and at the end of the day he still made it to the beach in time…
